Exhibit and Display Policy

Exhibits shall include displays for the Michael Phipps Gallery, display cases and floor or table displays.

Purpose: The purpose of having exhibits in the Omaha Public Library is to permit, for limited periods of time, displays of unified collections of paintings, prints, sketches, sculpture artifacts, or other objects. Exhibits are selected or prepared by library staff on the basis of their aesthetic quality or educational interest and on their ability to attract as wide a general audience as possible.

Exhibit Areas: The Michael Phipps Gallery is the area in the southeast corner of the main floor of the W. Dale Clark Main Library. Other exhibit areas at the W. Dale Clark Main Library include the center of the main floor or the 4th Floor. In addition, there are specified exhibit areas in other Omaha Public Library locations.

Exhibits: Exhibits may be prepared by organizations or institutions specifically for the Omaha Public Library; such exhibits should not involve the advocacy of political/moral agendas. Exhibits may also include traveling exhibits selected by the Library and exhibits by artists of national, regional, or local interest. At other times the exhibits may be of materials owned by the Library. Prices may be posted and a suggested donation of 10% be given to the Omaha Public Library Foundation from sales conducted on Library property.

Schedule: Exhibits will generally be on display for one month. Calendars of exhibits will be kept by the community services manager for the W. Dale Clark Main Library and by the branch manager for the branch.
Security: Normal precautions for the security of the exhibit will be exercised by the Library, but ultimate responsibility for the exhibit is that of the owner. The Library is not responsible for damage or theft. The Library provides no insurance coverage for this purpose.

Installation: Installation is the responsibility of the exhibitor who must provide all necessary tools. The installation must not result in any physical damage to the building. The installation is subject to approval of the Library.

Approval: Exhibitors must fill out the exhibit application listing the title of work and brief description of the exhibit and/or include an artist statement. Application for exhibits must be made in writing and, if requested by the Library, accompanied by examples of work to be shown. Exhibits in the W. Dale Clark Main Library must be approved or denied by the community services manager. Exhibits in a branch library must be approved or denied by the branch manager. Exhibitors may appeal denials to the Library executive director or assistant director.
